Guide to Drug Crimes--Part 1

Drug crimes, often referred to as "narcotics" offenses or "controlled substance" charges, are the most prevalent crimes committed in Florida. Everyone is familiar with common illegal drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. Many prescription drugs such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, alprazolam, and amphetamine (adderol) are also controlled substances. Florida chapter 893 is the section of Florida law that governs controlled substances. A list of controlled substances can be found in section 893.03.

While most are vaguely familiar with these crimes, much is misunderstood and sometimes wholly inaccurate. This guide helps to clarify some of the confusion and allow an individual charged with or simply interested in drug crimes understand these charges better.
